League representatives from the Powerline Baseball League met in February to discuss possible new rules, and new additions to the league.

The only major rule change was a move to wood bats. This will likely mean quicker and lower scoring games for the 2009 season, as well as less home run balls to fish out of the water in Bardo.

The league will also buy a domain name and work on instituting a better reporting structure for game scores and possibly stats. An Edmonton-area phone number and e-mail will be provided for teams to be able to submit scores within 24 hours.

Big news out of Ryley where there has been talk of the Ryley Rebels making a comeback for the 2009 season. The powerhouse in the 1990s folded as numbers dwindled, but now a group of former Armena Axemen are looking to kickstart a team again, league president Larry Lewsaw said. Another interested party from last year out of Sherwood Park has not made contact, but could be a possible new franchise as well.

However, the league could also lose a team or two from last year, as the Armena Royals and Ryley Brewers are up in the air. More information on those teams will come to light as March and April approaches.

“So we won’t know for a while, maybe until April, exactly who’s on board,” Lewsaw said.

It won’t be until then a schedule will be drawn together. But at this time, the league is moving forward with what should be another exciting year of men’s baseball.
