Six teams to battle it out in 2009

The Powerline Baseball League released its 2009 regular season schedule with a 16-game docket that starts May 12 and ends on July 9.

Despite a past vote to nix aluminum and composite bats in league play, a couple teams voiced concerns over costs and durability of wood bats. After a brief discussion, the teams voted unanimously to allow composite bats, but still not aluminums.

A brief pitch from Community 10 television station manager Ken Spong proposed future webcast or TV opportunities with the league. The station plans to broadcast some Camrose Roadrunner games this season, with possible expansion to other towns next year.

But the main topic was to address the schedule and dates. Camrose will square off on Armena on opening Day, May 12, while Tofield will visit Bardo. The next night, the re-born Ryley Rebels will take their show to Leduc to face last year’s upstart Leduc Milleteers.
