Rebels Lose Exhibition Doubleheader

The Ryley Rebels were swept on Sunday by the second year Leduc Milleteers. Game one was a messy one by both teams, as each had their share of fielding errors and poor at bats, but Leduc prevailed 5-3.

Unfortunately for the Rebels, the Milleteers were the first team to settle down and start to play baseball as they carried over their momentum into game 2, winning 9-0 over the Rebels. The most important stat if the weekend doubleheader involved broken bats, where Leduc once again shut out the Ryley Rebels by a score of 3-0.

Manager Corey Epp says he was giving everyone a chance to play and play in positions they normally won’t be in for the rest of the season. 

“We had lefty Darcy Grandberg playing some short stop for us over the double header.” 

There hasn’t been a lefty playing the left side of the infield since Johnny Ewanowhich started a few games at 3B for the now defunct Ardrossan Steelers. 

“We also need to work on communication and small things like hitting the cut off men” continued Epp.

During the 5th inning stretch Manager Corey Epp could be heard giving the boys a Nuke Laloosh-like pep talk. “A good friend of mine used to say. “This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. 

“Think about that for a while”

The Rebels look to finish Spring Training up with one more exhibition game against either Leduc, Tofield or Bardo as teams begin to finalize there rosters before May 13.
