Favourites hold serve in openers

Bardo and Leduc posted two victories and Camrose followed suit to set up an early pivotal week two in the PBL season.

Leduc plays both Bardo and Camrose in this week in what will surely be a stretch that determines who will be a clear-cut early No. 1.

Tofield and Armena both struggled out of the gate. Costly errors and no punch in the offence cost Armena a tilt with the defending champions in Bardo 9-0.

Ryley had a tough schedule to start the year and are off to an 0-2 start as well. But they gave the Roadrunners a scare early on and chased starter Hans Haugen off the hill Thursday night.

Steve Ofrim came in to shut the door late after a Warren Boychuk grand slam in the third inning to tie the game 4-4 after the Rebels were up 4-0 early. Camrose went on to win 10-5.

All three winless teams get a chance to rebound with match-ups versus each other in week two. Tuesday, the Rebels host Armena while Thursday the Royals travel to Tofield.
