Royals trip up Lakers

The Armena Royals matched their win total from last year with a 7-3 win over the Tofield Lakers Thursday night in their home opener.

Joel Boettger started and gave up just one run in four innings pitched. Youngster Kyle Ellis finished off the final three.

The Royals started off hot getting up 7-1 after three. The Lakers countered with veteran Josh Banack after the seven-run onslaught and he seemed to stymie the Royal attack.

Boettger struck out eight and helped his cause with an RBI double in the first while going 3-for-3 on the night.

Josh Lyseng picked up the “Crown Royal” with his two-out two-run single in the third that proved to be the insurance needed to put the game away.

Also getting hits for Armena was Jason Buzzell, 1-for-3, Adam Johnson, 1-for-4, Lee Palmer, 1-for-3, Ben Lyseng 1-for-3 and newcomer Mark Walker, 2-for-3.

Next up is the front-running Camrose Roadrunners on Thursday night in the Rose City.

In other action, the Camrose Roadrunners jumped out to a 5-0 lead at home against the Leduc Milleteers in a battle of undefeatedsLeduc slowly picked away at the lead, but couldn’t mount a come-from-behind win, dropping it 5-4.
