Athletics Capitalize On Rebel Errors

In a game that was being billed in local media as a pitchers duel, veteran power pitcher Don Oslund versus the young fireballerDylan Solberg, reality proved a different story. Errors by both teams yet some timely hitting by both teams gave us an offensive minded game which saw the Athletics pull away with a final score of 11 – 6.

Temperature at first pitch according to the Chevrolet Temperature Gauge was a brisk 5 degrees while gusting winds caused issues for outfielders all night. The Athletics lead off man Craig Neufeld turned a routine fly ball into a stand up double in the first inning which then led to Bardo’s second batter to lift a ball into the jet stream for an opposite field 2 run home run. Ryley countered in the second inning with a 2 out bases loaded double by rookie RF Travis Jones which gave the Rebels’ offense a chance to get back into the game. From there the teams traded runs until Bardo was able to capitalize on some more Rebel fielding errors and brought in 3 runs in 2 separate innings which sealed the deal. LHP Darcy Grandberg came into to pitch the 5thand 6th innings and faired well against the left handed filled Athletic batting order.

Manager Corey Epp, although upset with his teams disappointing defensive effort, was happy that his team was able to put together some hits against one of the PBL’s greatest power pitchers in Oslund. “We just didn’t help out our pitcher at all” said Rebels fleet footed, long legged second baseman Kyle Reinholt.

Epp sounded confident after the game that his team would be able to pull together defensively and win the season series against the Athletics (the Rebels play the Athletics three more times in league play). “I guess we will just have to beat them 3 out of 4 times instead of 4 out of 4 times” said Epp. Confidence in his team or bulletin board material for the Athletics, only time will tell.

REBELS THANK LONG TIME FAN
The Ryley Rebels organization would like to send out congratulations to long time Ryley Rebels and Ryley Brewers fan Bruce Holowaychuk for finding our catchers glove on Highway 14 between Ryley and Tofield. Sources close to the team say that the glove was probably left on a bumper or trunk of a vehicle and lost in transport.

Thank you Bruce, our catchers are very pleased they don’t have to use a first baseman’s glove to catch anymore.
