Ofrims shut down Royals

Paul Ofrim started it, and Steve Ofrim finished it, in what was truly a dominating performance by the two Camrose hurlers Thursday night in Camrose.
The brotherly duo fired in a combined 16 strikeouts against the Armena Royals enroute to an 11-5 victory, the team’s fifth straight to start the season.
And if it were not for some shabby Camrose fielding, the Royals might not have had a snuff offensively. But the “Blue and White” capitalized early to take the lead. After a lead-off hit by new Armena youngster Mark “Cheese” Walker, the Royals used a couple fielding errors and a sac-fly by Joel Boettger to take a 2-0 lead.
The Camrose offence wasn’t going to be shut down, however. Armena hurler Jason Buzzell struggled to keep the ball down and was lit up for 11 hits. He managed to get some ground balls occasionally, but too many multiple base hits cost the pitcher who made his first start since 2005.
The costliest inning for the young Royals took place in the bottom of the third, with Armena down just 3-2. Back-to-back errors followed by a 2-RBI triple by Dan Campbell opened the flood gates. A pop fly dropped by third baseman Joel Boettger added insult to injury. The Roadrunners notched six runs to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
The Royals are keeping their chins up, and they have to. Their biggest week of the season is next week when they head to Tofieldand then back to Anniversary Park to play Ryley. Team captain and player coach Clark Banack will get back onto the field, which should help the offence. Game times are 7 p.m.
