Provost Wins Roadrunner Tourny

The Provost Combine-Pilots, a brash, confident young team from down near the border, are the winners of the 2009 Roadrunner Invitational, having knocked off the perrenial favorite Cadogan Nitehawks by a score of 13-6 in the final.

The Provost squad received their only battle from the host Roadrunners, prevailing 11-9 in a hotly contested semi-final, after dispatching the Leduc Milleteers 12-0 in their opening game. The Milleteers went on to win the B side of the tourny, with victories over Armena Royals and Ryley Rebels.

The tourny was plagued by cold, breezy weather and a host of blow-outs, as other than the Provost-Roadrunner tilt, there was only one game that didn’t end due to the 7-run mercy rule, a 12-8 win for the Rebels over the midget Camrose Cougars.

Tofield Lakers, after thrashing the Cougars 11-4 in the tourny opener, gave the Nitehawks a good battle for five innings in the semi-final before falling 13-6 to the veteran Cadogan team.
