Rebels, Roadrunners chalk up 29 runs

The Ryley Rebels were able to pull out a win against the first place Camrose Roadrunners on Thursday night, beating them 16-13 in a game that was wide open from the first inning.
The Rebels faced Roadrunner RHP Hans Haugen, and it was tough going for Haugen from the first inning. The Rebels were able to send 13 batters up during the first inning, scoring 8 of them off of 6 hits, 4 of which were doubles. With the score 8-1 after the first inning in favor of the Rebels, the Roadrunners were finally able to get the offense going in the 3rd inning by scoring 5 runs and chasing Rebel starter Shane Metrunic from the game. Rebels LHP Darcy Grandberg was able to come in and stop the bleeding, pitching two solid innings (3rd and 4th) of relief work before giving way to closer RHP Corey Epp. Pitching the 5th and 6th innings seemed to be easy for Epp as he only surrender one hit and faced only 7 Roadrunner batters. Unfortunately for Epp the Roadrunners bats woke up in the 7th, but it was too little, too late. With the score 16-7 going into the top of the 7th, Camrose exploded for 6 runs on 5 hits making the game 16-13.
Offensively for the Rebels, Corey Epp was handed the game ball afterwards for his 1 for 2, 5 runs scored performance at the dish. Epp was able to get on base in all 5 plate appearances in almost every way possible, a walk, reaching on an error, a sac bunt with an error, another walk, and finally a single. LF Kris Kushnerick and 2B Kyle Reinholt combined for a 6 for 10 evening, with 4 doubles, 4 runs scored and 8 runs batted in between them. The Rebels as a team were able to get 7 doubles (new team record), 4 of which were in the first inning (also new team record), and 9 out of the 10 Rebel batters were able to muster a hit and score a run.
The Rebels will hope to continue the offensive wave next week as they go up against the Armena Royals in a pair of games (June 16 & 18 in Ryley) that could dash or seriously hurt the playoff dreams for one of the teams.
