Ryley Rebles Host Tourny

For the first time in 7 years there will be a baseball tournament in Ryley. The Ryley Rebels will host a two day event which has ballplayers and people in the area excited.

The Powerline Brewers have had Ryley their home for the last several seasons, after the folding of the previous Ryley Rebel team. The Brewers were formed when the league was struggling with team numbers. A few individuals took it upon themselves to help better the league by forming somewhat of an oldtimers tournament and league team to help the P.B.L. Ryley and Tofield had a surplus of players, so this freed up a few players from both teams, and with the the Holden Blue Jays folding, the Brewers were created.

Unfortunately, player numbers have been an ongoing issue for the Brewers the last several years. Valued players moving on including Kent Wickstrum, Brian Lyons, Andy Nimchuk, and Dennis Danyluk were tough on the team. Don Oslund, Pat Kawaliluk, and Milt Malik did an admiral job of keeping the depleted squad afloat.

Unfortuately it was a matter of time before the numbers game caught up to the Brewers. The word of another Rebel team forming in Ryley had caught the interest of a few players from a couple of different teams. The Brewers folded and other teams in the league have benefited from it. The emergence of the new Rebel team was in, and it had people talking.

Was the league ready to take on another young team? Was this a team just in it for the short haul? Not so much of a gamble, here though. The team has been organized, they are full of enthusiasm, have a new look, and rostered with players that have history in the area.

Although the team is new, the names are not, Solberg, Reinholt, Kushnerick, Lyons, Starky, Bugge, Lehman, Epp, have been around for sometime.

Many players have come and gone throughout the years, and most know that winning is something that is part of you when you wear the Rebels jersey. A pressure the young squad is not scared to take on. Hope to see you on Ryley Sports Day.
