PBL gets unexpected Bracket Busters

No one could have planned or written a better script for the 3/4 poll mark of the 2009 Powerline Baseball League season.

In PBL Week 7, Tuesday night starts with a bang as ironically, first place Leduc plays second place Camrose, third place Ryley takes on fourth place Bardo, and fifth place Armena battles sixth place Tofield.

Wednesday night then decides the season series with Leduc and Ryley in the Black Gold city before traditional rivals Bardo and Tofield and Camrose and Armena renew acquaintances on Thursday.

It all means after just six more games this week, we could pretty much have playoff matchups set, or begin a historic dogfight for postseason berths and the regular season title.

Due to the extra 16th game for all teams, the three pairs will all meet during the final week of the regular season as well. Currently, Camrose and Leduc, as well as Bardo and Ryley are tied 1-1. Armena leads its season series with a surging Tofield 2-0.

This is important since the second tie breaker, after most wins (which isn’t as big of a deal anymore since the extra inning rule was instituted), is head-to-head record of tied teams.
