Father's Day Champs!
Posted June 21, 2010
The Royals won the SSBL's annual Father's Day Tourney held this past weekend in Saskatoon. As you read in the previous news thread the Royals won their first game 6-3 over the Guns. They then defeated the North Battleford Beavers by a 16-1 score. Braden Bauml threw a complete game and the bats pounded out 12 hits and the defense did not make an error.
This advanced them to the championship pool with the Outlaws and Stallions. The Royals defeated the Outlaws Saturday night under the lights by a score of 7-2. Ryan Keehn threw an amazing game to get the win. The defense was solid and the bats came out later in the game to blow it open.
This meant that with a win over the Stallions the Royals would be the tourney champs and that's precisely what happened. Behind a complete game from Paul Strueby, flawless defense, and 13 hits the Royals beat the Stallions 13-4.
Special Congratulations to Ryan Keehn who won the tourney's top pitcher and Braden Bauml who was named tournament MVP!!! This is the second Father's Day title as the Royals also won it in 2003! Next action for the Royals is Wednesday at 6:30 against the Stallions.
