Roadrunners Win Rain-Soaked Battle
Posted July 7, 2009
Camrose Roadrunners and Ryley Rebels battled each other as well as the elements on Monday night in Camrose as a wet field and slippery baseballs put the damper on what had promised to be a classic pitching duel between Curt Stensrud and Steve Ofrim.
As it was, both pitchers gutted it out and went the distance, as Camrose held on for an 8-7 win in their final regular season home game.In a game marred by numerous errors, caused at least in part by the playing conditions, the lead changed hands three times before the home team used an error, a hit batter, and two singles to score four runs in the fifth inning and take an 8-5 lead.
The Rebels were led by Cory Epp and Kyle Reinholt who each had three hits, as the visitors out-hit their hosts 10-8.
The Roadrunners’ offence was led by Steve Ofrim’s three RBI’s and brother Paul’s three runs scored. Ofrim chalked up nine strike-outs over seven innings, compared to Stensrud’s five.
Next action for the Roadrunners is Wednesday in Leduc (weather permitting).
