Milleteers limp into playoffs, again

Just like last season Milleteers are going into the post season on a losing streak. After dropping a close one 5-2 decision on Sunday to a spirited Armena team that was fighting for their playoff lives, the Milleteers got thumped by Camrose tonight 7-2, who now get home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Much like last year, the Milleteers were favoured early on to take home the regular season title, only to stumble to the finish due to untimely errors and an offence that seems to dry up once summer hits like a shallow slough.

With the deepest pitching staff in the league the team is dangerous every night, but due to an anaemic offence, the margin for victory has become so slim that even one error can be disastrous. For most of the year the defense has been air tight, but as tonight’s five error performance shows, it is not fool proof, and when that has happened this year the offence has been not been able to pick up the slack.

Maybe some batting practice or the experience gained from last year’s playoffs will help the team navigate towards the finals, but unless something changes at the plate it could mean another first round exit for the pre season favourites and another long off season, and I’m sure Buzzell will start comparing the Milleteers to the San Jose Sharks.

After tonight’s game the Milleteers selected their All Stars: Catcher Shane Gerein, Pitcher and Second Baseman Scott Peterson, and Outfielder Kevin Doyle.
