Supers Sweep Royals to Advance to Finals

The Supers and Willowbrook Royals faced off for the first time in the playoffs since the 2012 season. The Royals won that season but the Supers exacted some revenge as they swept the best of three series with a 2-1 win at home and a 10-0 road victory.

Game 1 July 22 - Canora Supers 2 Willowbrook Royals 1 in Canora

Game one of the series was a pitchers duel between Kody Rock and the Royals Tanner Nesbitt. Each player matched pitch for pitch until the game went into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth with the score tied at one, Derek Palagian reached base on an error, followed by a walk to Sean Kolodziejski. Rock singled to load the bases and Travis Mentanko drove in the winning run with a single to right.

Rock went eight innings allowing one unearned run on five hits with fourteen strikeouts to get the win. It was another masterpiece in an MVP calibre season. He also had a pair of hits and a run scored. Mentanko had three hits and two rbis. Sean Kolodziejski had a double while the rest of the team was shut down to leave the total hits for the Supers at 6.

It was simply a game where both teams deserved a win but unfortuntely one team had to lose. It could have gone either way. 

Game 2 July 24 - Supers 10 Willowbrook 0 in Willowbrook

The Supers went to Willowbrook looking to make a statement, and did just that and more in a 10-0 blowout. 

Kholton Shewchuk started the game on the hill and threw the game of his life. When all was said and done there was nothing but donuts on the scoresheet as the Royals scored no runs and had no hits for Shewchuk's first career no hitter. The Royals reached on two errors and three walks and Shewchuk had six strikeouts to completely outclass the Royals.

In big games teams need their big guns to show up and on this day the Supers big guns were locked and loaded. Shewchuk had a pair of hits including a massive solo home run. Kody Rock had three singles with three stolen bases. Phil Sobkow had a single and a line drive home run over the left field wall, while Travis Mentanko had the dagger late in the game with a grand slam. Jordan Evans, Logan Parachoniak, and Sean Kolodziejski each had a single as well.

The victory puts the Supers into the SESBL finals for the first time since 2017 where they were humiliated by the Yorkton Yankees. The Langenburg Legends defeated the Parkland Pirates in the other series to set up a Canora vs Langenburg best of five final series. Stay tuned for the final series schedule
