Buzzilinear: We want better ball

Well – that was a dud.

The two teams, who managed to play pretty stellar baseball to get into the championship, looked like they could be beaten by fifth and sixth place Armena and Tofield in game one of the championship series Wednesday night in Leduc.

Although the scoresheet called Leduc’s fourth inning kickstarter a single, even Mike Leclaire himself would have deemed his two-out drop an error, which opened the door for a big fourth inning by the Milleteers – Bardo’s third error of the game.

Not to be outdone by mistakes, the Milleteers, who pride themselves on defence and pitching, looked like a bunch of clowns on the infield at times, making six errors themselves. However ace Steven Pahl was able to work them out of six of the innings unscathed.

Offensively, Bardo’s bats were dead. Leduc made hay when it mattered. They deserved to win – or maybe Bardo deserved not to win? At any rate, it’s 1-zip Leduc in this best of three series.

It appeared maybe the infield in Leduc wasn’t quite as good as it usually would be, echoed by Leduc second baseman Scott Peterson, who said the shale diamond played a little tricky on the night.

That doesn’t excuse the four throwing errors, one by Peterson, and a couple by shortstop Greg Jackson.

Championship jitters? Rusty gloves after a full week off? Bad infield?

I don’t want to hear excuses. I want to see good baseball. Show us why you’re in the championship. Show us a another instant classic in Bardo tonight that will either send the series to a deciding game, or win a championship.
