Axemen players influence decision for ShPk to enter NCABL

Sherwood Park will not enter the Powerline Baseball League, according to a source familiar with the team.

The group that was suspected as showing interest, will instead choose the North Central Alberta Baseball League as a venue to continue playing men’s baseball.

The group of players feels the league is better than the PBL and was influenced greatly by the Camrose Axemen to enter the NCABL instead.

That leaves the Powerline Baseball League with just seven teams for the campaign, barring any of last year’s teams do not participate this season. There are unsubstantiated rumours that Tofield and Camrose could be in trouble numbers wise, and no confirmation as to whether the Camrose Cougars will enter the league in 2010.

Could we see just five teams this summer after nine was rumoured in the fall? However, like any season, you usually end up waiting until March, April or even May until everything is finalized.

More on this story and confirmation of teams will likely unfold in the coming weeks.
