The countdown begins

The Powerline Baseball League is ready for the 2010 campaign, with a few caveats of course.

The biggest news from the annual spring meeting was the stepping down officially from President Larry Lewsaw, who served as president the last four seasons.

Steve Pahl, who plays for the Leduc Milleteers was nominated and elected as the new president. All the other executive remained the same with Josh Banack keeping his Vice President post, Ray Lehman and Mike Leclaire holding the secretary and treasurer positions respectively.

After a couple lengthy discussions on the tie-breaker rule proposed at the fall 2009 meeting, the teams then added clarification to what happens if playoff games are suspended by darkness or weather.

The league also decided to alter its all-star roster to shrink the total amount on the roster to give a few players a chance to play the whole game.

Teams will still vote for their nominations for top three pitchers, but this year, teams will be asked to rank from 1 to 3, with the top pick receiving 3 pts, second 2 pts, and 3rd 1 pt. The top three pitchers in points will be selected to the team. Each team in the league will then select two players to send to the game for a total of 12 position players and three pitchers (6 team league).

The league tabled the issue of joining Baseball Alberta at this time. Some teams voiced concerns of the restrictions on equipment that could be imposed and how being under the Baseball Alberta umbrella would affect the league.

Secretary Ray Lehman and League Statistician Jason Buzzell will look into the options further in the next few weeks.

Related to that, the league gave a possible new team from Sherwood Park until April 1 to give their intentions on whether or not they would join the league. An alternative 7-team schedule would then be drafted at that time.
