Teams approve joining Baseball Alberta

The Powerline Baseball League has voted to join Baseball Alberta’s Recreational Men’s category for the 2010 season.

Five of the six teams voted yes with the sixth team voting yes, but only on the condition that Baseball Alberta didn’t “alter the landscape of the league” with specific rules prohibiting chewing tobacco, and requiring throat protectors and double-ear-flap helmets for batters.

The league fee for each team was raised from $100 to $183.33 to cover the cost of joining, which was $500 for a six-team league ($200 for the league and $50 per team).

Armena had suggested the proposition in an attempt to secure two umpires for all of their home games. It is not clear whether other teams will use other Baseball Alberta umpires for league, exhibition or tournaments throughout the year.
