Milleteers and Blue Jays Kickoff The Preseason
The Milleteers travelled to Holden for a little preseason action and to welcome the expansion Blue Jays back to the Powerline Baseball League. The diamond was in great shape and the weather finally cooperated for a good day of ball. The game was tight early on before the Milleteer’s bats finally woke up in the latter half of the game. The offense was paced by middle of the order sluggers Steven Pahl and Shawn Brinkworth as they each ripped a pair of doubles and drove in four apiece. Trevor Pahl and Kevin Doyle did their parts at the top of the order as they each scored three runs. The rest of the batting order all reached base at least once as they kept the line moving.

On the mound the combination of Shawn Brinkworth, Ryan Walker, Steven Pahl, and newcomer Jon Antsey were tough as they only gave up one hit in the first inning and struck out 18 between them. The Holden hitters battled, but had trouble adjusting to the velocity of senior league pitching.

The story of the game however had to be the debut of 59 year old right fielder Brian Pahl. After a forty plus year absence from the game the cagey old vet had to come out of retirement as the Milleteers were shorthanded. He used his veteran batting eye to coax one walk, and would later come around to score, and played some solid defense in right.

After the game the Milleteers and Blue Jays took in some local entertainment down at the Holden Hotel. The beer was watered down and the pizza was greasy, but the dancers were quite decent, much better than you would expect down at the village watering hole.
