A’s clip Royals in exhibition tilt

A late scheduled preseason battle planned for Bardo on a picture perfect night finally kicked things off for Bardo and Armena for the 2010 campaign.

The A’s started veteran hurler Mike LeClaire while Armena threw young upstart Kyle Ellis. Both struggled keeping runs off the board, and the defence was a bit rusty as the teams staked out to a 5-5 ties midway through the contest before Bardo pulled away to a 9-5 win.

Bardo went to Chris Mittlestadt and Ray Lehman to close things out while Armena sent a merry-go-round of pitchers with Mark Walker and Cody Sroka firing an inning each before Royal newcomer Brian Radmacher mopped up the final two frames before darkness set in.

“I’m going to be a little sore tomorrow,” Rademacher said, who hadn’t pitched in nearly eight years. “That was fun to get out there again though.”

Cody Sroka was a bright spot on the night, throwing strikes and getting great movement from his looping breaking ball.

“He really impressed me tonight with his stuff, and Brian, what can you say, he looked like a guy who has some talent – but hasn’t played for a while – he can really help some of these young punks hopefully,” said Armena manager Jason Buzzell.

The Royals host Leduc, Bardo and Ryley for their home tournament Saturday in Armena. Games will take place at 9:30 a.m., noon, 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
