Baseball is back with PBL opening night

The Tofield Lakers, Bardo Athletics and Leduc Milleteers were all victorious on opening night as the Powerline Baseball League’s 2010 season kicked off Tuesday night.

Tofield edged Holden with an 8-7 win that came down to a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Lakers their fourth win in their last five games dating back to last season.

The Rebels and Athletics battled in a spirited affair in Ryley, tied 5-5 midway through the game. Bardo’s Ken Braget hit two home runs to propel the Athletics to a 9-5 lead and salted away the win.

Leduc’s pitching was too much for Armena’s silent bats, as they picked up another shutout win over the Royals. Armena has been shutout now twice in four games this year.

Teams are right back at it with Tofield heading to Leduc tonight, Wednesday, and then Armena heads to Bardo and Ryley takes on Holden to round out this week’s games.
