Milleteers Keep Good Start Going Against Lakers
The Milleteers welcomed the Tofield Lakers to Leduc tonight for their home opener. Both teams were coming off an opening night win the night before and were looking to get out to an early lead in the standings. The Milleteers decided to go with veteran Shawn Brinkworth tonight on the mound and he had his moments. His big slow curve had the Lakers perplexed all night and his knuckle ball was dancing most of the time. He did get in to trouble in the third as he walked a couple and gave up his only hit in the five innings he pitched, but he stuck with his curve ball to strike his way out of trouble. Brinkworth would end up with nine strikeouts on the night. Murray Doyle came in for mop up duty and had some hard luck as the Lakers found some holes and he ended up giving up a couple of runs.

Despite the lopsided the score the game was close early as Lakers hurler Josh Banack kept the Milleteers off balance. Things started to unravel in the third and the fourth inning for him as some errors let him down and history has shown that when a team gets four or five outs in an inning they will usually make you pay. The Lakers turned to the bullpen to stop the bleeding, but by then the Milleteers bats had woken up as they started stroking line drives on the way to mercying the Lakers in six. Next up for the Milleteers will be a game in Ryley on Tuesday and then they will host Bardo on Wednesday, both teams they faced in the playoffs last year.
