Blue Jays beat bungling Royals

The Holden Blue Jays won their third straight contest with an 8-1 drubbing of the Armena Royals Thursday night.

After both starters, Mark Walker for Armena, and Jake Thorisky, battled out of trouble in the first inning – both teams stranding runners in scoring position to remain 0-0, it was Walker who was finally bitten first.

Walker struggled with control and it finally caught up to the youngster as well as two errors to hand the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead after three. Walker walked nine and hit a batter in his third loss of the season.

Another error by shortstop Lee Palmer led to a baserunner, before yet another error by catcher Kyle Ellis trying to pick-off a runner on third led to the fourth Blue Jays run on the day.

The Royals responded with a RBI single by Steve Thiessen to draw back within three at 4-1 after four.

But the Blue Jays would finally run Walker off the mound in the fifth inning after two singles and three more walks. Thiessen would come in to mop up the rest of the fifth and sixth before long-time Armena ball player Wes Wilson took the seventh.

The Royals now sit tied for fourth with Ryley and Tofield who are all 1-3-0 now. They play the Rebels Tuesday night in Ryley. Armena then heads to Leduc to take on the front-running Milleteers on Wednesday night next week.
