Armena schedules doubleheader to end season

The Armena Royals will end their season with two home games on the road just like last year.

Tuesday, the team announced Thursday’s game against the Leduc Milleteers had been moved to Centennial Park Field 9 in Sherwood Park at 6:30 p.m.

The Royals will then play a make-up game following that tilt at around 8:30 p.m. against the Holden Blue Jays. That was originally scheduled for July 13. This means the July 15 game between Tofield and Holden will be rescheduled as well.

“This is a rare opportunity for us to play on a really nice field under the lights,” said Royals player-coach Jason Buzell, who was looking for alternatives after more than 2 inches of rain cast upon Armena Monday and Tuesday.

Last season, the Royals finished out the year with a game at Centennial against the same Leduc Milleteers to extend their playoff hopes with an improbably 5-2 victory. They then had to play a home game in Bardo against Bardo and lost 12-9 to end the year.

The Royals will look to play spoiler again as the Milleteers look to clinch first and the Blue Jays try and clinch their first playoff appearance.

Both teams have owned Armena this year though with wins of 6-0 and 3-2 by Leduc, and 8-1 and 6-1 by Holden.
