Annual Spring Meeting Held

The annual PBL spring meeting was held tonight in Camrose. Highlights included the proposal to create a joint committee chaired by Larry Lewsaw between the PBL and the Battle River League to help coordinate the All Star Game and a possible championship series between the two leagues.

It was decided that the PBL executive would be apart of this committee. As for the possible championship series it was proposed to be a 3 game series with the winner of the All Star game hosting the first two games on a Saturday and if necessary the third game would be played at the other team’s home diamond on Sunday. Obviously many other logistics such as a date, rosters, rules, etc.. would have to be worked out with the BRL, but the idea seems to be a go from the PBL.

Other business was the approval of the schedule, and the denial of an extension for a possible Sherwood Park franchise as they did not have a member present at the meeting. It was also decided to maintain the league membership with Baseball Alberta.

The All Star roster was again discussed and it was decided that each team will still send two players, and the league will vote on the top pitchers that each team submits with the All Star manager having the ability to add parts as needed. With the possibility of the All Star game deciding home field advantage for the possible PBL – BRL series, and with the BRL coming to win the last few outings the All Star game could be a much more important and heated affair this season.

Finally the executive will look a little different this season as Craig Neufield will be taking over for Mike Leclaire as treasurer and Corey Epp and Kevin Reinholt will share duties as Secretary as it takes at least two people to fill Ray Lehman’s big shoes.
