May 12/11
After a tough night at the plate the night before where the Milleteers could not buy a clutch hit they took out their frustrations on the new incarnation of the Camrose Roadrunners as they unleashed a 19 hit attack on their opponents. All Star Marcel Lesoway got the ball for the Roadrunners and he was quickly greeted with one run in the first and nine in the second, including the first ground rule double to the gap in the cavernous Leduc diamond since the switch to wood bats courtesy of 1B Steven Pahl. Not to be outdone catcher Shane Gerein came within two feet of hitting the first wood bat home run in the diamond as he clanked one off the top of the fence. The hits came from everyone tonight as newcomers Kelly Landaker and Andrew Toner each got themselves a batting average.

On the mound the Milleteers went with veteran junk baller Shawn Brinkworth and he gave the team three shutout innings as he struck out six, walked three and allowed no hits. Crafty lefty Kelly Landaker came in for two scoreless innings, which was nice to see as he hadn’t pitched since the 2008 edition of the Milleteers. Young lefty Greg Zilkie then took the mound to get some work and the Camrose offense finally woke up as they batted around and managed to put up seven runs before Murray Doyle came in to quell the rally.

After splitting the first week the Milleteers will head to Armena (or possibly Sherwood Park) to take on the Royals on Tuesday, then Wednesday they will host the powerful Ryley Rebels in a rematch of last year’s final.
