Milleteers Hammer Royals In Holden

Another game in the PBL, another football score. It looks as though hitters have finally adjusted to using wood bats as scores soar and stats are padded. The Milleteers traveled all the way to Holden tonight to take on the Armena Royals as the diamond in Armena is still being worked on. The Milleteers jumped all over Armena starter Wes Wilson as they put up 9 in the first as 1B Steven Pahl hit two doubles in the first inning. Not to be out done his little brother Trevor hit four hammered doubles, which would have been five if not for a spectacular catch from LF Jason Buzzell. After the Milleteers chased Wilson in the third hard throwing youngster Mark Walker came in and kept the Royals in the game as he would only allow five more runs the rest of the way.

 

 

On the flip side Shawn Brinkworth got the start for the Milleteers as he had looked pretty good so far this year, only allowing one run. The only blemish to his record was that he was walking a batter per inning. He solved that problem tonight as he only walked one of the 28 batters he face. Problem was that the pesky Armena hitters touched him up for fourteen hits of their own to try and stay in the game. In the fourth Murray Doyle came in with the Royals threatening and he quickly quelled the rally. He then went the rest of the game only allowing one run to preserve the wild victory. Despite all the hitting the difference in the game had to be a few key errors that the Royals made that lead to the big innings in the first and third. The Milleteers meanwhile were able to work around their miscues with limited damage.

 

 

In the end the Milleteers set several offensive team records tonight including most doubles in a game, most total bases, and tied their record for runs in a game. Trevor Pahl also smashed the individual team record for most doubles in a game. On the downside the team also set some dubious pitching records tonight for most hits and runs allowed in a game.

 

Despite the outcome in the Milleteers favor the real winners tonight were the hordes of mosquitoes that got a chance to feast on both teams during the near three hour marathon game. Next up for the Milleteers is a battle for first place versus the hard hitting Rebels at home tonight
