Peterson To The Resuce

After calling it a Hall of Fame career at the end of last season, Scott Peterson left the door open to the possibility of returning to the field on an emergency basis only. The Milleteers put him on the roster just in case, and sure enough tonight they needed his services one more time. Twenty minutes before game time a number of players canceled so Peterson got the call to suit up for his home town and he didn’t miss a beat as he went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, while providing solid defense at second.

 

 

On the mound tonight the two Stevens faced off for a second time this year as Holden’s Steven Hrabec handed Leduc’s Steven Pahl the loss in the season opener, the only league loss the Milleteers have suffered all year. Early on it looked like Hrabec and the Blue Jays were ready to duplicate the feat as they punched 3 across in a bizarre top of the third. First the normally overly generous strike zone in Leduc seemed to evaporate to nothing that lead to a leadoff walk and a single. Then a botched fly ball in left lead to a run and a first and third situation. Pahl seemed to have the runner picked at second after using the old bush league move, but the base ump missed the call. Then a solid single lead to another two runs scored.

 

 

The Milleteers would answer back, as they have done all year as they plated three runs of their own in their half of the third. They would then take the lead for good in the fourth as light hitting left fielder Adam Pahl atoned for his defensive miscue by ripping a standoff triple to start the inning, and was followed by singles from Kelly Landaker and Scott Peterson as the bottom of the order got a four run inning started. 

 

Steve Pahl cruised the rest of the way on the mound as he didn’t allow a baserunner after the three run outburst in the third as he ended up with a 12 strikeout 2 hitter. The only hard hit ball after the third came off the bat off of Holden veteran Pat Kawaliuk, who was robbed on a diving stab in the gap from right fielder Kelly Landaker. 

The offense kept plugging away for the Milleteers and they ended up putting 12 runs up on the normally stingy Holden defense to seal the victory. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow as Holden takes on the second place Ryley Rebels and Leduc takes on their playoff nemesis the Bardo Athletics, with both matchups having playoff implications.
