Four horse race heats up

Things are getting quite interesting heading into the make-up week of the season. Camrose’s come-from-behind win over Holden and Bardo’s scrappy charge over the diving Ryley Rebels has setup the stage for some intense games July 12 and 14 with a possible one-game playoff looming if the stars align. 
Here’s how it breaks down: 

Camrose Roadrunners (7-7)

They swept Holden and beat Ryley 2-1 in the season series, but they lost the season series to Bardo 2-1. A win over Armena or a Ryley loss or a Bardo loss puts them in outright. If it goes to a tie breaker they are guaranteed a one-game playoff at the very least.

Holden Blue Jays (7-7)

The Blue Jays had a playoff spot seemingly wrapped up, and even home field, which would have been huge given their less-than-stellar 1-5 road record. Now they’ll have to win on the road to try and clinch in Bardo – which is never easy to do. They were swept by Camrose, which hurts them if they get into a tie breaker situation so unless they get help from Leduc and or Armena next week, their final game of the season is a must-win to avoid a one-game playoff.

Bardo Athletics (6-7)

Here comes Ray Lehman again – I mean the Bardo Athletics, who seemed dead in the water after a 5-3 loss to Leduc last week. Two wins over Camrose and Ryley have vaulted them into a position to have a chance. They play Armena Tuesday on the road meaning they could win their remaining two games and clinch a playoff spot outright. However, since they own the season series with both Ryley and Camrose, a win in Thursday’s tilt vs. Holden would virtually clinch as well as that season series is tied 1-1.

Ryley Rebels (6-8)

A sad slide at the end of the season mostly due to lack of numbers has put last year’s runner-ups on the brink of playoff elimination. They were lucky to defeat the cellar dwelling Armena Royals with just eight players and now have to beat the defending champs next week and get help to force a one-game playoff. The only thing they might have going for them is Leduc travels to Goodfish Lake and may have a hangover from a weekend of beer and ball. The simple fact is, a loss will likely eliminate the Rebels from the playoffs (unless Bardo loses both their contests) one year after getting to the finals.
