Roth Shuts Down Royals

Alex Roth struck out six batters and allowed six hits scattered over seven innings to lead the Camrose Roadrunners to an 8-1 win over the Armena Royals Thursday night.

The victory in the often-postponed game clinched a playoff berth for the Camrose squad as they finish the season in second place.

Camrose took an early lead in the game as the first two batters scored, but Armena starter Clark Banack and reliever Cody Sroka kept the game close until the sixth inning, when a four-run outburst gave the home team a commanding lead.

Tim McTavish led the Roadrunner attack, going 3-for-4with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

The Roadrunners will have home-field advantage against the Holden Blue Jays in the semi-final series, but will have to open in Holden as the Camrose diamond is not available Tuesday.
