Milleteers secure Tuesday night home games

The Leduc Milleteers’ Wednesday night foray is over it seems.

The team let other league members know this week the diamond will be available for their use on Tuesday nights instead, thus keeping almost all the games on Tuesday and Thursday as they have been in the past for the Powerline Baseball League.

No word yet on drink specials at the local eateries and pubs for Tuesday nights. Word is, the Bardo Athletics are taking the lead on the inquiry.

The Wednesday night arrangement in some opponent’s eyes has created an unfair advantage for the 3-time champions, who possess the best winning percentage on home field since they entered the league in 2008 at 25-4.

At the same time, the Milleteers were forced to play back-to-back games every week, something many teams would find a slight disadvantage.

At any rate, this season everyone should be on the same page and it should create an easier schedule-making opportunity for the President.

Other news and notes

Sunburst League deemed only AAA league

Baseball Alberta announced the Sunburst League will be recognized as the AAA league of Alberta and the champion will represent Alberta at the National Championships.

A playoff series instead of a weekend tournament will decide the winner. Teams from AA/A can challenge the lowest ranked Suburst playoff team by playing off against one another. The teams must be registered in a Baseball Alberta league and be a member.

Braget to return to Bardo

Engnaminous third and first baseman Ken Braget said he hopes he can rejoin the Athletics who lost in a one-game playoff to Ryley last season. Braget missed most of last season due to work commitments and injury.

Royals have another busy off-season

At least five to six new faces could be in the Armena Royals lineup and at least two or three others are gone. Promising prospect Mark Walker took his free agency to the Leduc Milleteers after missing almost all of last season due to injury. Royals management says they have several other young prospects from the Camrose and Sherwood Park areas on their radar.
