Rebels/Jays Re-Schedule Rained Out Game

Posted May 25, 2012

Rebels General Manager/Player Corey Epp confirmed this afternoon that the Rebels/Jays game set to take place tonight at the Ryley Sports Grounds has been postponed due to the wet conditions. Epp also confirmed that the Ryley Rebels and Holden Blue Jays will tangle on Friday June 15th in a PBL game to kick off the 2012 Ryley Sports Days Baseball Tournament as a make up.

Rebel fans will remember that in 2011 the Rebels and Jays kicked off the eventually rained out Ryley Sports Days Baseball Tournament on Friday night with Holden winning 14-6.

RHP Kevin Reinholt got the start on the mound that night for the Rebels but ran into early trouble surrendering 4 runs in 1.00 innings pitched while walking 5 Jays’ batters. RHP Corey Epp came into the game for the next 3.67 innings but had no better luck as Holden collected 10 runs off of 9 hits. RHP Kris Kushnerick came in for the last 1.33 innings in a mop up role recording a strikeout and three ground ball outs in the sixth inning (Holden won the toss and elected to be the home team).

RHP Stephen Hrabec earned the win for the Jays that night surrendering a total of 6 runs, but only 2 earned, while walking 6 Rebels and hitting another 2.

The game was messy to say the least as both teams committed 5 errors while the Rebels left 10 runners on base and the Jays left 9 on.

The Rebels are hoping that the 2012 Ryley Sports Days tournament will bring better luck, as since 2009 the team has only managed one win at the tournament (2009 vs the Leduc Milleteers) and a handful of tough losses in front of the home crowd.

While the details are still being set in stone, the Rebels have confirmed that two time tournament winner (2009 & 2010) and the 2011 Senior AA Provincial Champion Provost Combine Pilots have confirmed that they will be once again attending the tournament to defend their title.
