Rebels Walk Off Roadrunners….Kind Of

It was the second dominating game in a row by the Rebels offence against the once first place Roadrunners who a week ago came from behind to knock off the Leduc Milleteers. The Rebels have strung together an astounding 49 hits in 2 games against the Roadrunners pitching staff pushing the Rebels team batting average to a disgusting .395 in 2012. During the game Rebels SS Corey Epp would be the first Rebel to double digit hits with his sixth inning single off of RHP Marcel Lesoway while 1B Tyrel Majeski would cash in his tenth RBI with an RBI single in the sixth inning off of RHP Pam McTavish.

 

Tuesday night was capped off when in the sixth inning the Rebels took it to RHP Marcel Lesoway who despite down 9-0 at the time, went back out to try and stop the bleeding. Unfortunately for Lesoway the Rebels would send 5 batters to the plate, with the assistance of two Roadrunner errors, against him with all 5 scoring pushing the lead to 14-0 before RHP Pam McTavish would come in. RF Kevin Reinholt would great her with a RBI single then 1B Tyrel Majeski would also hit an RBI single to finally close the book on Lesoway. C Brin Redhead would come to the plate with the mercy run standing in scoring position and would deliver and deep shot to the opposite field to end the game with a walk off mercy rule evoking three run shot. 

 

RHP Craig Koughan would once again put in work for the Rebels on the mound pitching a solid 6 innings while surrendering only 5 singles to the Roadrunners and only walking 2 on his way to his second win of the season. Koughan’s ERA has now fallen below the 1.00 mark for the season and now sits at 0.97 in 21.67 innings pitched for the Rebels. Koughan would keep the ball on the ground and when the Roadrunners had runners on the bases in the first and second innings, would induce the inning ending double plays to escape any damage that the Roadrunners could have caused. 

 

The Rebels will now make the long hike east to Holden to take on the Blue Jays Thursday night. Traditionally the Rebels have always struggled gathering 9 guys for the trip to Holden, but the back to back wins and the emergence of Majeski and Redhead as strong contributors to the team might see a consistent line up for the rest of 2012. Which giving the damage the line up has done versus the Roadrunners, might begin pushing the team into a playoff position and once again challenging the Milleteers for a shot at the PBL title come July.
