Milleteers Win Slugfest

The Milleteers continued to swing hot bats this week as they again pounded out double digit hits and runs for the second consecutive game. The Milleteers jumped all over starter Cody Sroka as they put up seven in the first as they sent 12 batters to the plate. It was good to see the bats get on Sroka early as the Milleteers usually have tons of trouble against the finesse righty. Sroka then settled down to give his team a chance to comeback.

The Royals answered back as they got to Milleteers’ starter Ryan Walker,
fresh off both his perfect game and the disabled list with elbow tightness. In
the second the Royals pounded out five hits, including three doubles to put up a
five spot of their own.

In the fifth the Milleteers put up another crooked number to chase Sroka
thanks to some hits and errors. Kyle Ellis came in to try and stop the
bleeding, but got absolutely no help from his defense in the sixth as the Royals
infield made three errors in a row to put the game away.

The Milleteers went to the bullpen as well in the fifth as they brought in
hard throwing righty Brad Engel, who also just got of the disabled list. Engel
held the Royals in check for the most part earning the old fashioned three
inning save. He ended the game on a bizarre plunk’em and picke’em as he drilled
catcher Chad Samosetti with an errant fastball to the chest, then was about to
pitch from the windup before Samosetti took off a little early and he stepped
off and got the easy out at second.

The offensive attack tonight was led by Ryan’s little brother Mark as he
had four hits and scored four runs, plus a couple of RBIs to stick it to his old
team. 2B Andrew Toner also scored four runs, and SS Trevor Pahl also chipped in
three hits.

The win gives the Milleteers a three game winning streak and a little first
place cushion heading into the Allstar break. The Allstar game goes down
Tuesday, June 26th in Camrose. The Milleteers are being represented by pitcher
Jon Anstey, catcher Shane Gerein and outfielder Kirk Smith.
