Milleteers Comeback In Bardo

The ball was flying off the bats in the heat in Bardo tonight as the teams combined for 26 hits. The Milleteers strolled into Bardo tonight with just 9 guys after a tough game the night before. To make matters worse they were down to their last healthy arm as everyone else was either pitched out or on the DL. The lucky guy tonight was Mark Walker as he had a tough task to deal with as the veteran Athletics were focused as they were fighting for their playoff lives.

Bardo struck first as four out of their first five batters reached base,
but Walker was able to wriggle out of a bases loaded jam with minimal damage.
The Milleteers then answered back with five of their own to chase starter Chris
Mittlestad.

Bardo would not go quietly however as they capitalized on a dropped ball on
a two out liner to center to score five unearned runs to take back the lead.
They scored another unearned run in the third, but then Walker settled down and
retired six in a row to keep the Milleteers in the game.

In the sixth the Milleteers got a rally started to chase reliever Sean
Melanson. Surprisingly Ryan Olsen came in to pitch, after going the distance
the night before. He stifled the rally, but not before the Milleteers took back
the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth Walker seemed to tire as Mike Leclaire led off
with a single, his fourth hit of the night. Bardo then strung some more hits
together to retake a two run lead into the seventh.

In the seventh the Milleteers pounded out five more hits, including a
clutch two out single from Walker to help his own cause and retake the lead.
With no one in the bullpen to spell him Walker soldiered out for the seventh in
the hot temperatures to try an nail it down. A one out single to catcher
Rob Berecloth and a walk to Leclaire put the tieing and winning runs into
scoring position, but Walker settled down and got a couple of fly ball outs,
including a deep fly to left off the bat of Ray Lehman, to end the game and put
a dent in Bardo’s playoff hopes. Now to secure a spot in the big dance Bardo
will need a victory tomorrow night in Camrose and hope for some help from their
rivals from Ryley.

Meanwhile the Milleteers will wait and see how the playoff picture plays
out as they have secured first place for the third season in a row with an 11-4
record.
