Milleteers Beat Out Bardo In Semis

After a grueling extra inning battle in game one, the Milleteers and Athletics looked to be headed towards another close one early on as pitchers Steven Pahl and Ray Lehman were on their game tonight. The Milleteers struck first as they played a little small ball as SS Drew Boyer laid down a perfect drag bunt to start the third, and moved into scoring position on an ill advised throwing error. After another sac bunt and a sac fly the Milleteers punched across the first run.

The Athletics looked poised to answer back in the third as they had two on
with two out, but Pahl used the old spaghetti leg move on the full count to pick
off the runner on second to escape without any damage. In the fourth the
Athletics threatened again as CF Dylan Berreclothe got on with a swinging bunt,
and then stole second on a botched pitch out, but he thought it was a foul ball
and started to go back to first and was promptly picked off.
ball as 2B Shawn Brinkworth got hit to leadoff the inning and Brad Engel came in
to pinch run. Engel stole second, then scored on a Anstey single after the
relay throw was off line. The Milleteers got another run in the sixth after
Greg Zilkie led off with a double off the fence, but could of had more as Mark
Walker was gunned out at the plate trying to score on a sacrifice fly on a good
throw from All Star Craig Neufeld.
brought the tying run to the plate, but Pahl got a flyout and a weak comebacker
to end the threat.
leadoff error followed by three hits and a walk chased the future hall of famer,
who pitched well enough to deserve a better fate. With no other available arms
left in the game, Ryan Oleson, who pitched nine innings on Tuesday, came in to
try and keep his team in the game, but the Milleteers kept the line moving and
ended up with a seven run inning to put the game out of reach.
Oleson followed up with a single, but Pahl stranded the runners to preserve the
shutout. The win tonight sets up a PBL final with the Milleteers hosting the
Armena Royals on Thursday as the underdogs swept the favored Ryley Rebels in
walkoff fashion in a 9-8 comeback victory. The Milleteers have only lost to the
Royals once in the last five years holding a 13-1 record, but the hard hitting
Royals are on a roll and look for their first championship since
2004.
