Milleteers Force Deciding Game
The Milleteers evened the series Thursday night as they got a great performance out of starter Steven Pahl. Pahl held the hot hitting Royals to only four hits. His only trouble came in the second after he botched a comebacker with one out, and then gave up a triple to Zenon Sherbaniuk to score the unearned run. He then got a strikeout and an easy comebacker to strand the runner at third. That was the only time a Royal made it past first base in the game. The only other hard hit ball was also off the bat of Sherbaniuk in the fifth when he lined one off the pitcher, but was then caught stealing to end the threat.

Offensively the Milleteers again had trouble cashing in runners as for the
second game in a row they had a man on in six out of the seven innings but
stranded seven. The bend, but don’t break defense of Armena was in effect again
tonight. In the first the Milleteers managed to cash a couple on an error, some
past balls and a two bloop single from Pahl, but still stranded two in scoring
position.

The Milleteers would be held off the scoresheet till the fifth when CF Greg
Zilkie led off with a single and a stolen base, before being cash in on a sac
fly. Then in the sixth Steven Pahl led off with a solo shot to chase Royal
starter Cody Sroka, one of his four hits on the night. The Royals brought in
their closer, Kyle Ellis, but he walked the first three he faced to load up the
bases with no out. After a bloop single scored one the Milleteers let Ellis off
the hook as they failed to break it open.

The five runs were enough though as Pahl held the Royals in check to force
a deciding game on Tuesday in Leduc to decide the 2012 PBL championship.
