PBL heats up on Twitter

The Powerline Baseball League’s prominence on Twitter went up five-fold over the last week as all but one team joined the social media network in the last seven days.

The 2012 Armena Royals were a lonely Tweeter, often commenting on their wins and losses and communicating with teams from other leagues. Team associate coach Jason Buzzell managed the account.

Beginning last week, the Ryley Rebels joined the Twitter ranks followed by the Holden Blue Jays and Leduc Milleteers quickly thereafter.

Late Sunday, the Bardo Athletics entered the fray:

Things were fairly lighthearted at the birth of these PBL accounts. The Ryley Rebels were most active with some jabs thrown at all the PBL bretheren. The weekend ended with talk of picking up ladies at a local drinking establishment.

It will be interesting to see how the 2013 season plays out if the account managers stay active. Things got ugly in the Foothills Major Baseball Association as teams hurled explatives and slurs at each other. Whether there was some inside jokes or not, the league could have been perceived pretty poorly looking at the Tweets.

The PBL is pretty closed-knit but even the best of friends off the field can get nasty on Twitter. At any rate, it’s caused a few chuckles on both sides of the field. Take a look at:
