Roadrunners Strike Early, Hold off A’s

The Camrose RoadRunners opened the 2013 PBL season on the road and on a winning note.

The RoadRunners got to A’s starter Sean Melanson early as they put up 2 in the first inning thanks to some wise base running and a couple of passed balls. The A’s attempted to take advantage of some control issues Camrose starter Alex Roth had as he loaded the bases in the first after plunking 2 Bardo batters. Roth was able to regain some control striking out 2 batters to end the inning, leaving the bases loaded with no damage done.

Roth helped his own cause in the 2nd with a 2 run triple as the RoadRunners added 3 more in the 2nd. A well placed double and a throwing error helped the A’s get on the board in the bottom of the 2nd. Camrose was able to put up 1 more run in the top of the 3rd before control issues plagued Roth again.

Roth plunked 2 more batters in the bottom of the 3rd and the A’s were able to score 2 before Camrose 3rd baseman Bret Keohane turned an unassisted double play to stop the bleeding. The 4th inning saw a new pitcher for the A’s as Melonsan’s night was done. Kallal came on in relief and worked a 1-2-3 4th.

Roth put his control issues behind him and worked a 1-2-3 5th before turning things over to Josh Banack. Kallal kept the A’s in it with some fine pitching and good defense as he tagged out a Camrose runner at home on a passed ball. After a scoreless 6th and a quick RoadRunners 7th Banack was able to battle to hold the A’s in check to pick up the save.
