Roadrunners Get Dirty In Win Over Rebels

If a stained uniform is the mark of a well fought game then Ryley and Camrose played one for the ages on Tuesday night. Late in the afternoon it looked as if we wouldn’t get a game at the Ryley Sports Park thanks to some heavy rain but the Baseball Gods smiled upon the Rebels and Roadrunners as the rain subsided just before the first pitch.

Corey Epp took to the hill for the Rebels and found himself in some trouble early as he walked the first 2 batters. Those two runners would come back to haunt the Rebels. A stolen base and passed ball helped leadoff man Sheldon Petryshen score and a double from Josh Banack brought the second runner home.

Epp was able to catch Eldon Banack looking to end the threat. Alex Roth was on the mound for the Roadrunners and worked a quick 1st inning allowing only one base runner thanks to some solid infield defense.

The Roadrunners were able to use the muddy infield to their advantage in the 2nd as Marcel Lesoway advanced to 1st what can be generously described as a slow roller down the 3rd base line. Lesoway was able to advance to 2nd on a passed ball and scored fielders choice. Epp limited the damage by picking off a napping Cory Keohane at 1st. Roth and the infield worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the 2nd.

The Roadrunners and Rebels both worked quickly through the 3rd but Camrose struck again in the 4th scoring 2 more with the aide of a couple of passed balls and a throwing error. Camrose added 1 more in the 5th as the field began to deteriorate. Roth looked to be working a quick 5th but a throwing error kept the inning alive and the Rebels capitalized scoring 2.

A quick 6th by both teams helped as the light began fading and the field began resembling more of a mud bog pit than ball diamond. The Roadrunners were able to score 2 more after a few errors from the Rebel infielders. Josh Banack came on in relief for Roth in the bottom of the 7th. Banack gave up a lead off homerun to Brian Tavaroli.

He recovered quickly uising a pop fly to right & the infield defense to get the next 3 batters to end the game and the Roadrunners 3 game losing streak.

No word if Ryley or Camrose will be able to get all the mud out of their cleats and off their jerseys in time for Thursday’s match ups.
