Roth stymies Royals in Roadrunner victory

The Armena Royals hoped to finish off their lengthy homestand with a win, and got the pitching performance they needed from a holiday-returning Ian Sherbaniuk, but it ended up being spoiled by Alex Roth and the Camrose Roadrunners Tuesday night.

Roth worked the zone well and kept the Royals at bay most of the night. An Adam Siebold double gave Roth a 2-0 advantage after three, but the Royals capitalized in the fourth with hits by Clark Banack and Dean Prpick to tie the game.

The pitcher’s dual continued until the sixth inning when Sherbaniuk gave up a lead-off single to Tim MacTavish but then got what appeared to be a double play ball to second baseman Jason Buzzell who let the ball go right through his wickets, and both unearned runs would score to go on to win the ball game.

Sherbaniuk’s night was spoiled, striking out a career high nine batters. It could have been his fourth win of the season.

The Royals now have another week off while the Roadrunners host Beaumont hoping to revenge their 7-6 loss last week.
