A’s get back to .500 with win vs. Rebels

A game that had the makings of another epic segment to the short past of the Bardo/Ryley rivalry turned into nothing more than hard fought game from both sides. Other than a couple disagreements on close calls this game showed that most players have the ability to put to put small animosities behind them and enjoy the game that is baseball.

Ryley gave the nod to newly acquired LHP Kyle Grocock while Bardo countered with Sean Melanson wearing his newly laced shoes.

Grocock looked poised early in the game and mowing over the first three batters with only 7 pitches. The bottom of the inning would show the first action of the game where a well struck ball by 1B Craig Koughan was misread by rusty CF Dylan Berrecloth to drive home Brian Tavaroli.

A’s responded with back to back doubles by Braget and Mittelstadt but the that would be all that Bardo could muster up in the inning.

Bardo broke it open in the third driving in four runs and tacking on another in the 4th to give them a 5 run cushion. Melanson was pitching efficiently and constantly getting himself out of 2 out jams.

Ryley would stick with Grocock to finish out the game. Bardo would give themselves a little bit more insurance with one more run in the top of 7. Ryley as always is a threat to come back in any game and today was no difference. With no outs Ryley managed to load the bases with two bean batters and a lone single. Craig Koughan singled to score one, Bardo then went with Chris Kallal to close out the game. Kallal struck 2 of the next four batters along with a sac fly to end the threat.

The win not only brought the A’s to .500 on the season but as well took up the final playoff spot as they leapfrogged Ryley for fourth.

Next game is Thursday (barring the weather clears up) in Bardo (4-4) vs. Leduc (6-3-1). Game time 7pm.
