Armena outlasts Beaumont in sloppy marathon

The Armena Royals and Beaumont Angels exchanged mistakes throughout the night and pounded the ball around in a nearly three-hour contest with 24 runs, 19 hits and 11 errors through 10 innings of baseball.

The Royals ended up somehow on top as the resilient Beaumont Angels came back from deficits four times, including a two-run eighth inning to keep the game going after the Royals got an RBI single from catcher David Ritz, to take an 11-9 lead.

Ian Sherbaniuk went seven innings for the visiting Royals, while Adam Johnson picked up the blown save win. Sherbaniuk struck out eight and gave up just four earned runs. All the earned runs came in the first inning. The other five went unearned on six Armena errors, as the defence continues to be an issue. He ended up with a no decision as manager Jason Buzzell went to Johnson in the eighth as the dangerous part of the top of the Beaumont order was coming up.

Brother Zenan Sherbaniuk continues to provide offensive pop with a 2-for-4 night and two walks, plus two RBI and a stolen base. Johnson also helped his cause with a 2-for-5 night, two walks, two RBI and two stolen bases.

The Royals hope to shake off the rust from the prolongued layoff next week in a big capping of the mid-season road trip with treks to Bardo then Ryley next week. Game times are 7 p.m.
