Big Win Keeps Camrose In Playoff Picture

A week after falling 7-2 to the Holden Blue Jays the Camrose RoadRunners made the most out of the rubber match.

It was a pitchers duel early in the evening as both Holden and Camrose pitchers worked quickly through the first 2 innings. Camrose starter Alex Roth lead off the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd. After a lead off walk and a two-base throwing error, Roth scored the 1st run of the game on a passed ball.

Holden answered back in the top half of the 5th inning with 1 of their own thanks to a RBI triple by Grayson Soprovich.

Sensing their season may be on the line, the RoadRunners used patience and some crafty base running to put up 5 in the bottom half of the 5th. Roth got things started once again with a lead off walk, Jordon Banack was able to advance him thanks to an infield error.

After a rare steal by Banack, Mark Lawson was able to bring Roth home with a single. Sheldon Petryshen was walked to load the bases and Bret Keohane came through with a clutch double to score both Banack and Lawson. Petryshen and Keohane plated after sacrifice RBI’s from both Tim McTavish and Adam Siebold.

Petryshen came on in the top of the 6th in relief of Roth, got a quick 1st out but then the Roadrunners ran into some trouble. A Zak Lang single was the only hit the Blue Jays could muster in the 6th but some defensive miscues helped Holden to score 2. The rally was stymied after catcher Bret Keohane caught Logan Skori trying to steal 3rd and Tyler Hayduk flied out to left.

Holden once again attempted to rally in the 7th after a lead off single from Soprovich. This time the Camrose defense was equal to the task as Keohane caught a wandering pop fly behind home, Lang hit into a fielder’s choice and Skori flied out to Roth in center to end the game to kept the Roadrunners playoff hopes alive.
