The Jays’ 10-1 series-clinching
victory over the Bardo Athletics played like a much closer affair. Through the
first four innings each team threatened to score in bunches, but neither side
broke the game open. Consistency, an important facet of the Jays’ success,
helped Holden push through a few tights spots, whereas the bounces failed to go
Bardo’s way on Thursday, despite a solid effort.

Logan Skori threw six strong
innings for the Jays and, on a night where he lacked his best stuff, the
defense would aid their right-hander competently. From the opening pitch, the
Athletics jumped on Skori’s fastball, ripping it all over the field. However,
the Jays’ defense was up to the task early and late, making only two errors for
the entire evening. A Skori pick-off of Ryan Olsen in the first set the tone
for an unlucky night for Bardo, as hard-hit balls constantly found Jays’
defenders. With two double plays and a bad-luck groundball deflection right to
SS Grayson Soprovich, the Athletics just could not string hits together.

left-center. Bardo would answer back with their lone run in the bottom half of
three, but the Jays broke through again in the fifth for two and the sixth for
a five-spot as Athletics starter Chris Mittlestad would tire, giving way to
reliever Chris Kallal. LF Alan Ziegler had a solid night at the dish, going 5-5
with slap singles up the middle and to the left side.
