No expansion rumours reported

Usually every season sees one or two teams eye the Powerline Baseball League as a potential home for their young team. Most fizzle out as this writer is accused of lies and making stories up.

This season the front was pretty quiet. The Battle River League however remains tenuous as the rural roots and teams dwindle from the past. Teams like Lougheed and Hardisty are always battling for guys. Rosalind and Heisler seem to be the two constants but remain quite far south of the typical PBL travel plans. They also only play one game a week and focus much more on tournaments that pay out and use friends or players as umps in the early rounds.

Teams in early spring like the Armena Royals and Camrose Roadrunners were acquiring players. Very little else was reported on any troubles. Some rumours at the end of last year wondered if Beaumont, a year older now, would continue on as well as Holden and Ryley. Even the Camrose Axemen were reportedly short on players and have acquired a veteran Edmonton player or two more in their quest of an NCABL title – negating the annual rumours of any return to the Powerline League.

Thursday night should solidify the seven teams hopefully. From there, the schedule can be approved and another fun year in the summer can begin, whenever it does begin…
