Opening day excitement mounts

Six teams will kick off the 2014 Powerline Baseball League season as the weather takes a turn for the better after a cold week, and the Leduc Milleteers look to defend their title for the sixth straight season.

  • Ryley Rebels at Bardo Athletics (2 p.m.)
  • Beaumont Angels at Armena Royals (5 p.m.)
  • Leduc Milleteers at Holden Blue Jays (6:30 p.m.)

The Rebels renew their annual opening day tradition against Bardo. This will be the fifth straight season the two meet on opening day with the series tied 2-2.

The other two games are relatively new rivalries. The Angels entered the league last season and have played in Armena just once. The Blue Jays and Milleteers are becoming an common dance partner in the PBL final with Leduc winning twice now.

A few of the teams won’t have much time to shake the rust off. Games shift back to regular Tuesday/Thursday so four of the seven teams will play three games in five days, testing their pitching depth and stamina early. Game times shift back to 7 p.m. during the rest of the regular season.
