Milleteers Get In The Win Column

After losing three one run games the week before, the Milleteers stopped shooting themselves in the foot and played a solid game Tuesday night a against the surging Ryley Rebels.  It was a battle of aces tonight as the Milleteers Jon Anstey squared off with Ryley’s newly minted ace Scott Koughan, who went 7-1 last year in the AAA Sunburst League, as Ryley tried to bury their rivals in the standings.

Leduc got on the board early when they strung together a bunch of bloops and bleeders in the second.  It looked like that might hold up as Anstey was dealing as he struck out 13 on the night and had a no-hitter going into the sixth.

RYLEY 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 2 4 5
LEDUC 0 1 0 0 0 4 X 5 10 2

The Rebels would answer in the fifth, despite not getting a hit as they used an error and a couple of walks to load the bases, before a gutsy steal of home would tie it.  Anstey would right the ship and wriggle out of the jam with a ground ball (and perhaps a genorous call at first).

In the bottom of the sixth the Milleteers would finally capitalize on all their baserunners as they used a leadoff error to break it open as they got back to back singles to load the bases.  Mark Walker then stroked the first pitch he saw for a lineout to center for a sac fly to score the go ahead run.  Then a Gregg Zilkie single and another error and single scored three more insurance runs to put the game to bed.

The Rebels would get one back and threatened with runners on, but Anstey got an infield fly to end it and earn the Milleteers their first win of the year.  Next up for the Milleteers will be a tilt with the Camrose Roadrunners on Thursday, then they will host a tournament on the weekend featuring some of the best senior ball teams from around Alberta.
