Milleteers Squeak By Beaumont

On a beautiful night for ball the Beaumont Angels and Leduc Milleteers had themselves a good old fashioned pitcher’s duel, with playoff implications.  The Milleteers went with All Star Chad Soucy while the Angels countered with Marc Villenueve.

The Angels would get started in a hurry as the leadoff man drew a walk and then promptly stole second. After a flyout to center Villeneuve helped his own cause with a single to left. The runner held up at third but the throw  missed the cutoff man and went into no man’s land allowing the runner to score.  After that Soucy tightened up and the defense was solid as he continued to put up zeroes to allow the offense to get back into it.

In the bottom of the first the Milleteers got the first two batters on, but a couple of flyouts put a damper on things.  A walk would load the bases for the hot hitting Mark Walker but he would flyout to left center to end the threat.

The Milleteers finally got on the board in the third as 1B Steven Pahl got his first hit in a month with a double to the left center gap.  He then stole third and scored on a E-5 after a chopper ate up the third baseman.

The Milleteers used another error and stolen base to get another run in the fourth after Gregg Zilkie got on after an error on the second baseman and then stole second before being cashed in on Shane Gerein single.  The Milleteers would threaten in the fifth and sixth as well, but could not score, despite going seven for seven on the base paths tonight.

That set the stage for an Angels rally in the seventh as they got the first two on with a walk and an error. Soucy would dig deep and get his eight and last strikeout on the night.  The next two batters would hit the ball hard but the Milleteer outfield was up to the task as they snagged the two liners to end it and keep the Milleteer playoff hopes alive.

The Milleteers sit idle Thursday, but will participate in the annual Ryley Days Tournament on the weekend as they take on Provost and Holden in the round robin.
